Explanation of Seersucker

Seersucker is a cotton fabric with a distinctive appearance and style. It is made from a thin, light, plain weave. It is a cotton printed and dyed product with a bubble-like, creped texture. Available in bleached, solid, printed, and yarn-dyed stripes, it is breathable and comfortable to wear, and does not require ironing after washing.

During weaving, two different warp beams, the ground warp and the bubble-weave warp, are used. The bubble-weave yarn has a coarser yarn count and is let off about 30% faster than the ground warp. This results in a convex and concave bubble pattern on the fabric. After a loosening finishing process, the fabric becomes woven seersucker. This method of producing seersucker is generally a yarn-dyed stripe product, available in all-cotton, pure chemical fiber, or chemical fiber blends.
